Agent settings
Agent settings let you adjust how the AI agents in your workspace behave, without changing anything for other workspaces. For example, you can tell the stock price agent to always mention the exchange, or move an agent to a faster, lower-cost model.
Open Settings → Agents to see every agent available in your workspace.
Who can change them
Section titled “Who can change them”Only the workspace owner can change agent settings. Other members can open the page and see what has been changed, but cannot edit it.
What you can change
Section titled “What you can change”Each agent decides which of its settings can be changed. An agent shows only the settings it allows. Some agents are marked Not adjustable, and some may be Locked for your workspace.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Additional instructions | Text added after the agent’s built-in instructions. Use it for tone, format, or rules that apply to your workspace — for example, “Answer in two sentences.” The agent’s own instructions stay in place, so improvements to the agent still reach you. |
| Model | The AI model the agent uses. Only models available in your workspace are listed. A larger model can give better answers but costs more per message. |
| Reasoning effort | How much the model reasons before answering. It only has an effect on models that reason; the page tells you when the selected model does not. |
| Replace built-in instructions | Offered on very few agents. Your text replaces the agent’s own instructions entirely, so later improvements to the agent will not reach your workspace until you switch back. The page warns you before you do this. |
What an agent can do — the tools it uses and the shape of its answers — cannot be changed.
Changes apply to chats and workflows in your workspace within about 15 seconds.
Presets
Section titled “Presets”Presets change the model, and the reasoning effort where it applies, on every agent that allows it, in one step:
| Preset | Sets |
|---|---|
| Fast | The quickest, lowest-cost model available to your workspace |
| Balanced | The default settings |
| Thorough | The most capable model available to your workspace |
A preset does not touch additional instructions. Each change a preset makes is recorded in that agent’s history, so you can undo it agent by agent.
Try before you save
Section titled “Try before you save”Under each agent, Try it runs one message with the settings you are editing, before you save them: type a message and press Run test. You see the agent’s answer, the model it used and how many tokens it took. Nothing is saved until you press Save.
Test runs count toward your workspace’s usage, and each workspace has a daily limit on them.
History and undo
Section titled “History and undo”Every change is listed in the agent’s History — who made it, when, and whether it was an edit, a reset, a restore or a preset. Restore puts back the settings that change replaced. Reset to defaults removes all of your changes to that agent; it is recorded in history too, so you can restore it.
Messages you might see
Section titled “Messages you might see”| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| This setting can’t be changed for this agent. | The agent does not allow this setting in your workspace. |
| That model isn’t available in this workspace. | Pick another model from the list. This also appears when you restore a change that used a model that is no longer offered. |
| This agent’s settings are locked. | Nothing can be changed on this agent in your workspace. |
| Only the workspace owner can change agent settings. | Ask the owner of the workspace. |
| This workspace has used today’s test runs. | The daily test limit is reached. It resets the next day (UTC). |
| Testing isn’t available right now. | Test runs are switched off, or the service that counts them cannot be reached. You can still save your changes without testing; try again in a few minutes. |
| The test run didn’t complete. Try a different message. | The agent could not finish answering that message with these settings. Nothing was saved and the run counts toward the daily limit. Try a shorter or different message, or another model. |
Developers can manage the same settings through the API reference.
